The Gathering
Jack Neary

THE GATHERING was written exclusively for Zoom presentation. It is, in fact, the story of a family Zoom meeting during the early stages of the 2020 pandemic. During the course of the meeting, one of the family members is assaulted in her apartment. The other family members see this but, of course, are helpless to do anything about it. What begins as a friendly family get-together devolves quickly into a desperate, gut-wrenching exercise in terror.

Or does it?

It is impossible to detail what happens over the course of this 70-minute play. To do so would defeat its purpose. You have to read it, or see it, to find out.

Ideally suited for community and professional theatre alike, THE GATHERING just might be the jumping off point for theatres looking to find their way back into the performance mode as the vaccines are distributed and the pandemic becomes a thing of the past. There is a cast of 9 of varying ages. Three couples and three individual performers. It was introduced by the Acting Out Company in Newburyport, MA in December of 2020. The photo on this page is from that production.
