ACT I
PRELUDE
In the dark, sweet music starts to
play. Before too long, there is a
FLASH OF LIGHT, and we see a FAIRY
roaming aimlessly, perhaps in the
audience area. The music adjusts
accordingly. Dark again. More music.
Another FLASH OF LIGHT. This time TWO
FAIRIES are spotted, equally lost.
This happens a few times, revealing
more fairies, seemingly lost. In the
final darkness, the music builds as the
actors get into place for the beginning
of the show.
SCENE 1
VARIOUS CHILDREN'S HOUSES. TODAY.
A number of children sit at computers,
tapping away rhythmically as the song
progresses. Above them, we can see A
LARGE SCREEN projected. This screen
depicts what the children sing about.
(We don't need to see the various
children's houses onstage, just a
clearly-delineated area that
accommodates different locations. The
computers themselves can be represented
merely by keyboards, or, perhaps,
pantomimed completely.)

The song ends. As the applause fades,
the children remain at their computers,
and softly echo the rhythmic chant of
"click, click, click" for a bit as the
scene progresses.
From the aisles, a cricket named
CLIFFORD and a frog named RIBBET enter
and survey the scene. Clifford is a
sharp, energetic little creature.
Ribbet is on de-caf. The animals, in
reality, are a distance away from the
kids, looking from whatever vantage
point they have on the kids in their
houses.
CLIFFORD
Are you lookin' at this?
RIBBET
Yup. I'm lookin'.
CLIFFORD
So you're seein' what I'm seein'.
RIBBET
Yup. Lookin'. Seein'. Takin' it all in.
CLIFFORD
We got a big job ahead of us.
RIBBET
Yup. Big job. Biiiig job.
CLIFFORD
I don't know if we can get away with it.
RIBBET
Why not, Clifford?
CLIFFORD
Well, look at 'em! Sitting at home, totally hooked to the
computer. We'll never get them to do what we want them to
do!
RIBBET
But they've got to help us! We promised the fairies we would
find them places to live!
CLIFFORD
Let me think, Ribbet!
MONICA enters. She is a beautiful
monarch butterfly. Clifford reacts
badly.
CLIFFORD (cont'd)
Monica! I'm glad you're here! Where is everybody else?
MONICA
They're coming, don't worry. Have you found the special
person yet?
CLIFFORD
No!
(indicates kids)
And I doubt we'll find the special person there!
MISSIE, a hummingbird, flitters onto
the scene. She is energized, and
pretty much can't stop moving. She
also talks very, very quickly. This is
a constant with her. Whenever she
talks, she's like this.
MISSIE
Hello, hello, hello. Sorry I'm late. I had a lot to do this
morning. Lots and lots to do. Looking for houses, you know.
Have to find houses for the fairies very soon, very soon.
Hummmmmm. Hummmmmmm. Lots to do. Lots and lots to do.
Looking for houses. Sorry I'm late. House-looking. That's
what I was doing...Hummmmmm...
CLIFFORD
Missie! Missie! Slow down...slooooow down. Relax.
MISSIE
(not succeeding)
Okay. I'll relax. Gotta slow down and relax if I wanna help
you guys. Slowin' down. Slowing down now. Relaxing.
Relaxing as fast as I can. Relaxing...
Clifford and Ribbet grab her, and hold
her.
CLIFFORD
Deeeeep breath.
(she tries, fails)
Deeeep....deeeeeeeep breath...
(tries again, gets closer,
fails, flits)
One more time....deeeeeeeeeep....breeeeeeath...
This time she succeeds. Takes a nice,
deep breath, and stops moving for the
first time. Clifford, Ribbet and
Monica look at her, wait a beat. Then
smile. She smiles. Then she starts
moving furiously again.
MISSIE
Okay. That was a nice rest. Now let's get to work. Work,
work, work, if we wanna get this
